STYLISH POCHAMPALLY SILK SAREES FROM POCHAMPALLY@UNNATISILKS

Pochampally, in Telangana, India, is well-known for its Pochampally brand of sarees, the base fabric being cotton, silk or a blend of the two. The exquisite finish of the saree comes through the dyeing and weaving of pre-coloured threads which are dyed according to the Ikat or Ikkat technique.

BEAUTIFUL POCHAMPLAYY SILK SAREES COLLECTION ON

The Ikkat technique involves applying bindings which resist dye penetration to the threads in pre-determined patterns and then dyeing the threads. These threads are then woven to produce the desired pattern. When several colours are used, the dyeing process on the threads is repeated for each of the colours chosen. Then the fabric is woven with the multi-coloured threads into the pattern.

Within the ikkat style of dyeing are methods of single-ikkat and double-ikkat. Single ikkat has two variants – warp ikkat where the warp threads are dyed after applying resists according to pattern on the warp threads. After that, only, is the weaving done.

In the weft ikkat it is the weft threads which are coloured by applying resists before the dyeing and then weaving is done. In either case the dyeing is done prior to the weaving so carefully that the pattern emerges as the weave progresses.

In the double ikkat method both the warp and weft threads are dyed before weaving. Alternatively, in the tie-dye method it is quite the reverse of the Ikkat style of dyeing. Here the threads are first woven and the resist bindings then applied to the fabric before dyeing it.

The painstaking efforts of the weavers in maintaining the purity of dyeing and weaving, including the control and placement of threads during the weave contribute largely to the complexity of the weave patterns and pleasing appearance of the sarees.

Colours that are employed for the dyeing of threads are fast and well-chosen. No wonder the outcome of the Pochampally saree displays an extraordinary ethnic skill that is hard to match. Current trends see Pochampally silk saris with traditional designs, zari borders and elegant pallus with pleasing designs and colourful prints, making it a must-buy for weddings, festivals, traditional functions and even corporate wear.

ELEGANT BENGAL SILK SAREES COLLECTION FROM BENGAL @UNNATISILKS

Bengal is famous for its handloom silk saris. Fine, smooth, of good texture, airy and light on the body, the Bengal Silk Saree is preferred for almost any occasion from daily casual to traditional occasions, social functions to grand parties and weddings.

SHOP FOR STYLISH PURE BENGAL SILK SAREES ON

Prominent among the silk handloom saris of Bengal is the Baluchari and the Tangail Jamdhani. Fine count quality weaves, each has its specialty. The appeal of the Baluchari Saree lies in its colour harmony. Colours preferred are red, green, yellow, blue and their shades. Silk brocade designs suited to the base colour, are decorated with attractive motifs. The Pallav or Pallu is generally adorned by folk lore or mythological themes.

Balucharis are made from silk. With silk brocade designs suited to the base colour, they are decorated with attractive motifs. One of the major themes that adorn the Pallav or Pallu of the Baluchari Sarees are mythological stories depicted on the walls of the terra cotta temples that the Malla rulers had built and are located in present day Bengal. The Malla dynasty rule had influenced motifs and the narratives from the Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana were obvious subjects for depictions on the thematic pallus. Today floral motifs are very popular.

Many figured patterns have also been introduced. Baluchari Sarees are preferred as soft and comfortable wear, for their fine weave and stylish looks. Some popular themes of today as flower bunches, animals, court scenes of an earlier era, boat etc. adorning the Baluchari Saree make them most attractive and apt for a variety of occasions; be it wedding ceremonies, parties, grand functions, social gatherings or as corporate wear.

The current trend of increasing use of organic materials, has found its way into the experimental manufacture of the Baluchari Organic Sari. Fine blends of cotton with both banana fibres and bamboo shoots replace the silk yarn, while acidic dyes have been substituted with dyes made from extracts of fruits, vegetables, leaves, turmeric etc.

Jamdhani hand weaving is a necessary accompaniment for Bengal Silk sarees where cotton and gold thread weaving create motifs of geometric patterns and floral designs in colourful hues. Dhania Khali and thangail are popular weaving styles and the sarees like the Thangail Jamdhani weave have popular motifs like Nature, the sun, the moon and stars.

A Baluchari Sari was once worn only by women from the upper class and landlord families in Bengal during festive occasions and weddings. Today it is widely worn without distinction in many parts of the country on various occasions. Post-independence revival by a person named Subho Thakur, through the weaving skills of Das, a weaver from Bishnupur and knowledgeable in this art form, restored the glory of this fine weave once again.
This time round the Baluchari Saree once hand-woven, was tried out on Jacquard looms and the success of the experiment is now for all to see in the current weaving method of this art weave. The Baluchari saree has won the Presidential award on two occasions for its weaving style and has been prominently displayed in international trade fairs.

online shopping for stylish casual chanderi floral printed cotton silk sarees collection by unnatisilks

Chanderi in M.P., India is traditionally the home of the famed Chanderi sarees, known for the stylistic Bootis and extraordinary threadwork on fine weaves in silk and cotton. With plain to moderately adorned patterns or motifs and small but attractive coloured borders and exquisite pallus with some adornment, Chanderi sarees have been popular for the extremely fine texture and sheer quality. The entry of the Chanderi Saree in its new avatar of fusion Sicos (blends in silk and fine cotton) has again sparked fresh interest in a fabric that since traditional times has never ceased to amaze.

Enhancing the beauty further is the ‘Booti’, ‘Butti’ or motif, which is an interlaced, hand-woven, shape, consisting of gold, silver or copper coated threads. The Asharfi Butti, or Gold Coin shaped Booti has been a popular choice since earlier times, though the pure gold or silver used in its making has given way to tested Zari, which is woven from synthetic yarn by needles of different sizes. The bigger version of the ‘Butti’ is popularly known as ‘Butta’.
A major difference in the making methods is that the ‘Bootis’ of hand-woven Chanderi saris, retain their shape and appearance throughout the life of the fabric, with no thread coming out from the ‘Butti’ structure. Buttis once only hand-woven on the fabric, have been replaced by gold-printed ‘Butti’prints on the silk fabric body.

The fusion range of Chanderi Sicos offered by Unnati Silks includes a whole range of Kalamkaris. Kalamkari, is craftsmanship through the use of a pen, an ethnic art involving hand-painting or block printing on Sarees. Subjects of Gods, temple hangings, epic scenes and other religious themes, flora and fauna as motifs with trees, creepers, flowers, leaves, birds as some of the popular subjects adorn the Chanderi Sico saree. Marked features of this fusion style are simplicity, good use of natural organic colours . Employed on the Chanderi Sico Saree, the Kalamkari addition through hand block prints and stylish pen work makes it look grand, that the Saree becomes apt for weddings, bridal attire, corporate wear, as also suitable for festive occasions like Sankranthi, Diwali, Dushera, Pongal etc.

There are the Rapid block prints with the latest designs, with exquisite kalamkari in beautiful floral spreads on contrast patch borders and designer pallus. Visualize light backdrops with dark hand block prints with gicha woven borders and a floral designer pallu Or a white background filled in with block prints in red and green and matched by a red and black velvet patch border and a self coloured pallu with kalamkari prints.
